Automation, no!

Last night, in the restroom of a convenience store on highway 50 in Pollock Pines, California, I was actually surprised when the sink's faucet didn't turn on when I waved my hands under it. How is this? How have I come to expect automatic motion-detecting faucets? What percentage of the public restroom faucets I encounter have these? Maybe ten percent?
